Hannah Demmitt, BS
is pursuing an MSW MPH with expected graduation in December 2014. Ms. Demmitt earned a BS in Psychology from
the University of Georgia in 2011.
Ms. Demmitt’s interest areas are in physical activity, child
development, and international work
and travel.
She will begin her integrated field placement at The Tree House, an organization
working to strengthen communities by reducing the occurrence and impact of
child abuse through counseling, educating, supporting and nurturing children
and families. There, she will utilize
public health skills to launch a community social marketing campaign against
child abuse and assist in the implementation of a new community-based
program. She will use social work skills
by assisting with forensic interviews and providing individual counseling to
children using trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy.
Currently, she is employed as a Psychosocial
Rehabilitation Individual at Advantage
Behavioral Health Systems where she provides in-home skills training, case
management and crisis management to individuals with mental health
diagnoses. Skills training includes
coping skills for anxiety and depression, medication management, budgeting, and
linking to community resources. Ms.
Demmitt also volunteered as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Georgia for 3
years, where she advocated for children who were placed in foster care to
ensure their needs were at the forefront of all court proceedings. Crucial components of this work included
conducting interviews, writing reports, and participating in court hearings. Additionally, she has experience living
abroad and has completed numerous short-term international projects, such as
working in a children’s home and a nutritional clinic for malnourished infants.
Ms. Demmitt’s career goals are to combine her compassion for
children with her skills in public health by focusing her efforts on issues
related to maternal and child health, either nationally or
internationally. Her interests include
working to provide children access to basic needs such as clean water,
vaccination, and a safe environment. Ms.
Demmitt’s passion for justice and equality is what keeps her focused and driven
to achieve her lofty goals.
