Abstract
Introduction:
Dual Master of Social Work/Master of Public Health (MSW/MPH) degree programs
have become common in recent years at many universities across the United
States. Universities have found the need to develop dual degree programs due to
increased interest by students seeking to attain education and training which
integrate two degrees into their fieldwork (McCave et al., 2011). Dual degree
graduates may feel more confident with their career opportunities, given that
dual degree programs are mostly related and allow for a student to be better
prepared for a more diverse field.
Purpose:
The purpose of this bibliography is to summarize the current literature on dual
MSW/MPH degrees.
Methods:
A literature search was conducted in Galileo, Google Scholar, and Ejournals between
the years 1981-2017 using the following key words or combinations of key words:
“public health social work,” “dual” and “public health” and “social work,”
“dual degree(s),” and “public health” and “social work,” “MSW” and “MPH,”
“interdisciplinary study,” “integration of public health and social work.”
Results:
Interest in MSW/MPH dual degrees has increased in recent years, and MSW/MPH
professionals have been able to integrate knowledge attained from both fields
of study. Results from the literature search are summarized in an annotated bibliography.
